On 20 August, a scientific and practical conference entitled “Tajikistan’s Initiatives at the Forefront of the Global Agenda: From Water and Climate to the Culture of Peacebuilding” was held on the initiative of the Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan in the Ismoili Somoni District. The event was attended by employees of the Main Department of Geology under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the State Service for Supervision of Industrial and Mining Safety.
The conference was organised to mark the 35th anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. It addressed Tajikistan’s global initiatives concerning water resources, climate, environmental protection, the rational use of natural resources and the promotion of a culture of peace.
Scientists and experts participated in the conference and discussed the significance of Tajikistan’s international initiatives.
Presentations were delivered on the following topics: “Assessing the Objectives of the Leader of the Nation’s Global Initiatives in Addressing Water and Climate Challenges”; “Water Diplomacy and the Culture of Peace: Tajikistan’s Place on the Global Agenda”; “Mineral Resources and the Contribution of the Mining Sector to National Economic Development”; and “Climate Change and Its Impact on Tajikistan’s Water and Geological Resources”.
It was emphasised that the global initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation and President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, in the fields of water resources, climate and environmental protection are directly linked to the geological and mining sectors. The study of geological structures, groundwater resources, glaciers and mineral deposits is essential for the rational use of natural resources and the promotion of sustainable development.
It was noted that Tajikistan, as a mountainous country, possesses substantial water and underground resources, and geological research plays an important role in studying and protecting them. At the same time, the development of the mining sector must comply with environmental requirements and industrial safety standards.
Participants also discussed glacier protection, the impact of climate change on water resources, and the use of modern technologies to monitor natural resources.
Another part of the conference focused on peace, national unity and the culture of peacebuilding. Tajikistan’s experience in achieving peace was recognised as an example of conflict resolution through negotiations and mutual understanding.
In conclusion, it was emphasised that Tajikistan’s initiatives in water resources, climate, glacier preservation, peace and stability are of international importance. The development of geological sciences and the rational use of natural resources also play a significant role in achieving sustainable development goals.
